My 6-year old son started his first session of Vacation Bible School yesterday. Since we don't actually spend that much time in church and I'm completely out of my depth when the subject of religion comes up, I was both surprised and flummoxed when he bounced out of his room before going to VBS on the first morning to engage me in the following conversation.

HIM: Mommy, you know something? I know God is real.
ME: Huh?
HIM: I said, I know God is real.
ME: Oh, really? Wow.
HIM: Yes. My friend, Stephen, isn't so sure, but after we talked about it, he said he might change his mind.

Next time, I'll get my caffeine before I leave my room.

I'm thinking of yanking my kid out of VBS; he asked me yesterday how Jesus was killed and how the soldiers could see him to stab him with the sword because he's invisible. Um, he's 4, I don't even let him watch commercials and now I have to explain crucifixion? Thanks, VBS!

Wow. That's cute! Your son must have given a persuasive argument.

You might have a budding theologist on your hands!

As for some people being the ones who don't take "no" for an answer, they will have to get used to disappointment. ;-)
